Professor Aubrey Bishop, OR, CCH, BSc, LLM
Aubrey Fitz Ronald Bishop was born at Georgetown, Guyana and educated at the secondary level at Queen’s College. He was called to the English Bar in July 1963. He enjoyed great success at both the Civil and Criminal Bars in Guyana. He was elevated to the High Court in 1976; to the Court of Appeal in 1987; became Chief Justice in 1992; and Chancellor and Head of the Judiciary in 1996.
Immediately upon demitting office, Professor Bishop assumed a full-time Professorship of Law at the University of Guyana.
Professor Bishop, who also holds a B.Sc. Degree in Industrial Relations and Management, as well as a LL.M. degree, has been lecturing for 27 years.
He has been Vice President of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas; and a FIFA International Soccer Referee.
He has also represented Guyana at cricket and football.
Professor Bishop has twice been honoured nationally in his country with the Cacique’s Crown of Honour, and the Order of Roraima, Guyana’s third and second highest awards, respectively, being bestowed on him.
Professor Aubrey Fitz Ronald Bishop is married to Dr. Carole Maison-Bishop. They are the parents of three children.
