CCJ finds against Suriname, but dismisses damages

The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) today handed down its judgment in the matter Hummingbird Rice Mills Ltd. v Suriname and the Caribbean Community. This original jurisdiction matter was the first of its kind involving The Republic of Suriname.

The CCJ issued a declaration that Suriname breached its obligations under Article 82 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas to establish and maintain the Common External Tariff (CET) during the period 1st January 2006 to 14th June 2010.
