CCJ Statement on the passing of Dana Seetahal SC

6 May 2014

The Caribbean Court of Justice joins with the national and regional community to express its deepest and most sincere condolences to the family of the late Dana Seetahal, Senior Counsel.

The Court is shocked by and deplores the violent circumstances in which Ms Seetahal’s life was taken from her. With her completely unanticipated disappearance, Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean Community have lost a tireless advocate for the rule of law and the administration of justice.  The CCJ mourns this great loss.

It is not just a matter of her significant legal acumen being no longer available to our communities; it is that she shared her wealth of knowledge so generously, so selflessly, so spontaneously with all in need of it.

Ms Seetahal’s passing thus represents thus not merely the loss of a single life. It represents the disappearance of a wealth of knowledge, experience, and abundant good will.  We are all the more impoverished for it.

 May she rest in peace.
