Statement of the CCJ on the passing of Mr. Charles Leacock QC

The Caribbean Court of Justice shares in the bereavement of the Government and people of Barbados over the untimely demise of the late Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Charles Leacock Q.C.

 

 The Court wishes to express its sincere appreciation of Mr Leacock’s work, his commitment to legal excellence through exhaustive and painstaking research and preparation and his dedication to the construction of a genuine Caribbean jurisprudence.

 In his appearances before the Court, Mr Leacock’s performance was always exemplary, giving evidence of thorough preparation and readiness.  His skill, his experiential acumen and his sheer professionalism contributed to enhancing the quality of any matter in which he appeared.

 

 The region will miss this stout champion of the rule of law in the Caribbean.  His successor will have very deep shoes to fill indeed.
