The Annual CCJ International Law Moot is an activity in which law students take part in a simulated court proceeding at the Seat of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) in Trinidad and Tobago. Each law faculty or institution represents either the claimant or the defendant in an Original Jurisdiction case, which is presented before selected judges of the CCJ. This year, an amicus curiae will be included in the proceedings. The CCJ considers the Moot an excellent opportunity to introduce regional law students to the principles of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas and to raise awareness of the Court’s Original Jurisdiction.
The Court will host the 16th Annual CCJ International Law Moot on 26 and 27 March 2026, where nine regional teams will compete in this year’s event:
- Anton de Kom University of Suriname
- Eugene Dupuch Law School (The Bahamas)
- FHR Institute for Higher Education (Suriname)
- Hugh Wooding Law School (Trinidad and Tobago)
- Norman Manley Law School (Jamaica)
- The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill (Barbados)
- The University of the West Indies, Mona (Jamaica)
- The University of the West Indies, St Augustine (Trinidad and Tobago)
- University of Guyana
The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill (Barbados) won last year’s competition and secured the Best Academic Institution prize. The institution has been the only academic institution to secure the gold medal since 2012. The Eugene Dupuch Law School won the Justice Jacob Wit Best Written Submission, and the Sir Henry Ford Oralist prize was won by Alexia Trim of the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Faculty of Law, whose institution placed second in the competition.
