The Caribbean Court Justice (CCJ) Academy for Law is pleased to announce that, in partnership with the General Legal Council of Jamaica, it will convert its 6th Biennial Conference, originally scheduled for December 2020, into three online conferences. The CCJ Academy is also collaborating with UWI TV and the IMPACT Justice Project in this endeavour.
The series commences on Tuesday, 19th May 2020 at 10:00 am under the theme “Legal Dimensions Arising from COVID-19 Pandemic”. There will be four panels: Civil Liberties; International Law; Force Majeure & Commercial Contracts; and The Administration of Justice. The respective panel leaders are Professor Amnon Lehavi, Professor of Real Estate and Dean of Radzyner Law School; the Honourable Mr Justice Winston Anderson, CCJ Judge and Chairman of the CCJ Academy; the Honourable B St Michael Hylton OJ QC, Attorney-at-Law; and the Honourable Mr Justice C Dennis Morrison OJ, President of the Court of Appeal of Jamaica. The panels comprise stellar legal minds drawn from at least ten countries, including Brazil, Israel, Singapore, Turkey, UK, and USA, as well as several in the Caribbean.
These webinars will all focus on the unprecedented legal issues arising from the novel coronavirus pandemic; legal issues that are both global and local and which invade and pervade virtually every aspect of the ways in which citizens live their lives. From the duties of the state on whose territory the virus first appeared; to the equitable access to therapeutics and vaccines by all states of the world; to the impact on civil rights and liberties; to the reassessment of commercial contracts and to the administration of justice – the issues are as varied as they are significant.
The webinar is entirely free and is open to the public via live streams on UWI TV’s website www.uwitv.org. Further information about the conference is available at www.ccjacademy.org.
